The Vegas Golden Knights got the early lead as Pavel Dorofeyev scored on a power play nearly seven minutes into the first period. Carolina responded just five minutes later as Jordan Staal tipped it in past Carter Hart for his sixth goal in five games this series. Carolina took its first lead of the night in the second period, as Andrei Svechnikov sent a slapshot past Hart to capitalize on the second of back-to-back Hurricanes power plays. Sebastian Aho followed soon after with his first goal of the series off a gorgeous long pass from Sean Walker. In the third period, Svechnikov got his second of the night off a pass from Nikolaj Ehlers, but Vegas finally found a response with Dorofeyev’s second goal to get the deficit back within two, but failed to get closer despite an empty-net power play in the game’s closing minutes. Game 6 is in Las Vegas on Sunday, where a win would give Carolina its first Stanley Cup in 20 years.
